We identify and sponsor young, talented children in Nigeria through the basic primary education up to the secondary school level.

Why Gbade Sanusi Foundation?

Mr Gbadegesin Sanusi was born on the 17 of April 1947 to the family of Late Lamidi and Ladebo Sanusi of Sobaloju Compound, Isale Ijebu, Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria.

He was a devoted teacher at the basic primary education level. His passion for education was so great that He was awarded the best teacher for many years at the Christ Apostolic Church Primary School, Itabaale, Olugbode, Ibadan. He rose to the position of the Assistant Head teacher at the same school. He was later transfered to Army Children School Iwo Road, Ibadan. While just settling into the new school, he traveled for a family function one weekend. On the journey he had a road traffic crash, from which he sustained a severe head injury. This led to his untimely death on the 21 of October, 2001.

In memory of him and to carry on his legacy, this foundation is named after him and for the purpose of bringing basic education to the children of low income families of Nigeria. To begin with Ibadan and its environs (Gbade Sanusi’s hometown), then the whole South West and South East as well as the gradual extension into the northern part of the country.

Plan and modality
Our Aim

GSF’s aim is to promote the interest of talented children by providing financial support in the form of scholarships for their education. This is meant to set a foundation for their academic pursuit in various areas of learning and secure a better socioeconomic future for them and their families.

To achieve this lofty goal, there is a detailed plan for the identification, selection, screening, and award process. Also, publicity and promotional activities as well as beneficial partnerships and alliances will be sought via a documented process.

Some of the modalities for the selection process include:

  • Organizing an Inter-public-school quiz competition that will be televised on a popular local TV station. A reference sample is the ’Junior Quiz’ that was organized and televised by the Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo State (BCOS) in the 80s and 90s. Adebayo Sanusi (a son to and a student of Gbade Sanusi) and Ayobami Akinbile (a student of Gbade Sanusi and a senior boy of CAC Pry School I, Itabaale Olugbode, 1990-91), who both are founding members of GSF were partakers of Junior Quiz in the early 90s.

  • Online or mobile educational games that would be adequately publicized and used for random selections for candidates that might be out of school

  • Alliance with BCOS for sponsorship of their legacy ”Junior Quiz” which would give the benefit of online broadcast of such events

  • A provision shall be made available for encouraging teachers who support the vision of this foundation. These teachers will be beneficiaries of a special category of awards and also be engaged as partners/ supporters of the foundation

An Educational Consultant/ Progam administrator might be engaged to help with a detailed plan for this selection process.

The aim of this foundation is to identify and sponsor young, talented children in Nigeria through the basic primary education up to the secondary school level, with special interest in those who are have financial constraints. This sponsorship programme will, eventually, be extended to cover certain tertiary education studies as the foundation grows. Such selected tertiary education of interest will be determined by the certain parameters such as demand for certain skill and labour forces in the Nigeria market and and the world at large.
